Is the next line, “I’m going to Disneyland?”
One of my favorite agent blogs is kt literary. I love her Ask Daphne series where she dismantles query letters saying what works for her and what doesn’t and asks her readers to do the same. Also, she loves shoes and Joss Whedon! Talk about exquisite taste. So when I read this kt literary post asking what people planned on doing to celebrate selling their book, it got me thinking.
I answered that I would get a tattoo to commemorate the event. Which I fully plan on doing. But after posting I realized there is one thing I keep visualizing doing after getting that first commission check for selling my novel. I want to walk into a book store and buy to my heart’s content!
Since I quit my accounting job and start working as a freelance writer, money has been tight. I haven’t been able to indulge in my book habit very much. Thank God for libraries! But I have missed out on that thrill of find new books at the book store, or hearing about a book online and running out to get it. With my advance check it only seems right to give back to the industry while feeding my addiction.
What about you? If your book sells When your book sells, what are your plans to celebrate?
On a different note, I did manage to indulge in my obsession for the first time in a while. Jim Butcher’s Changes– the newest book in the Harry Dresden series- is out. I walked into the bookstore and gave a little squeal when I saw the display front and center. (woo hoo nice piece of real estate there Jim!) I got that excited feeling I get when there is a brand new book out and I finally hold it in my hot little hands. I planned on savoring it, reading a few chapters at a time.
Darn that Jim Butcher and his gift of writing. Yes, I read it all in one night- staying up until almost 4 in the morning. Then I couldn’t sleep because I needed to talk to someone about it and had burning questions.
I can’t say anything because I don’t want to ruin it but wow.
So if anyone has read it and wants to geek out with me about it- send me an email! Rissa at RissaWatkins.com
